There is so much information on fitness and diet out there on the internet. My hope is for the Dad WOD to bring you simple, effective, and relevant advice on creating a healthy lifestyle. I am not a self-proclaimed guru but I do believe I have some real life experience that can help guys like me: busy dads!
Think about this journey as more of a lifestyle than starting an exercise program or diet plan. You can start small. Just START! Here are a few ways to integrate Dad WOD principles into your life:
Walk more. Take a 10-15 min walk each day. This gets you mobile, you get vitamin D from the sunlight, and it helps you clear your mind.
10 Reps when you wake up. This is a principle I learned from Tim Ferriss. Immediately upon waking do 10 repetitions of an easy exercise: squats, push-ups, sit-ups, etc. This starts your day on the right note and help you wake up. No coffee necessary. Just kidding... coffee is always necessary.
Lift something heavy. I can't emphasize this enough. Lifting heaving or running sprints helps stimulate testosterone. Guys, that's a good thing! If you don't have weights carry a heavy rock, deadlift a small car (done it), lift those bags of mulch, or carry your wife around the house (not saying she is heavy).
Elevate you heart rate. The Daily Dad WOD is launching soon and will take care of this but we all know we need to take care of the old ticker. Hit some sprints (jogging is a waste of time). Do some squat jumps. Knock out 7 minutes of burpees.
Don't Eat Crap. I am not a registered dietitian but I will tell you my own dietary principles. Stay away from sugar. This means stay away from those girly "coffee" drinks. Be a man and drink it black. No one ever got fat from eating lean meats and vegetables. I am pro carbs just focus them before and after your workouts in order to replenish muscle glycogen (aka build muscle).
You always have time. If I had a dollar for every time a guy told they didn't have time to exercise I would be a rich man. Tell me this: how much time to you spend on instagram or facebook today? When in doubt set a timer for 7 minutes and do burpees until the time is up. You will get fit and have plenty of time for social media shenanigans.
